Start by Listening

Caparra’s co-founders have a combined 25 years of experience in startups, plenty of time to store up lessons learned, likes and dislikes, and “someday when I’m in charge…” nuggets. When we started Caparra, that background made it tempting for us to charge straight into build mode, and only get around to speaking with potential customers when we present a final product.

However, one of our most vivid lessons learned is that the most important thing about building a product is to build something that customers want. The best and most direct way to learn this is clear: talk to potential customers. Accordingly, over the past few months the Caparra team has spoken with technology leaders, software developers, and DevOps professionals about their work and the challenges they face.

We are most grateful to the dozens of professionals who have shared their time and expertise with us. Among the lessons shared with us:

  • In speaking to DevOps professionals in Europe, Asia, Africa, and North America, it is clear that the global profession shares a common outlook and approach.

  • There are many existing tools and frameworks for maintaining infrastructure and software development pipelines. With the diversity of need cases, there’s often no single “best” tool.

  • Technology is always changing, so DevOps professionals must always be learning. We have been pleasantly surprised by how eager some of our “experts” are to learn from us.

  • Despite all this technology, DevOps is first and foremost about communicating with people, not computers. A great DevOps professional is always looking for ways to improve his or her company and team culture.

The Caparra team is delighted that you’ve taken time to learn about us, and we look forward to learning from you. Please share your feedback anytime.
